Ooey Gooey German Chocolate Butter Cake! Fun fact, German chocolate cake isn’t actually from Germany! It’s just named after the guy who invented the chocolate used in the cake! Have you ever Ooey Gooey Butter Cake? I first heard about it during the reign of the butter queen Paula Deen. But gooey butter cake was actually created by accident in the 1930s by a German baker in St. Louis! The baker was trying to make a regular cake but mixed up the proportions of butter and flour, resulting in the decadent dessert we’re making today! Rather than use yellow cake mix, I thought we should revisit the German chocolate cake origin story! Here’s what you’ll need: 1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix 3 Eggs 1/2 cup of butter (melted) 1 block of cream cheese (8 oz, softened) 1/4 cup hot cocoa mix 2 cups powdered sugar This is a 2 layer cake. Start with the first layer by mixing the dry cake mix, melted butter and 1 egg (don’t follow any of the directions on the box. I like lining my baking dish wish parchment paper - press the mix into the bottom of the dish. In separate bowl mix the cream cheese, remaining eggs cocoa mix and powdered sugar. Then pour it on top. Bake at 350F for about 45 minutes. Don’t overcook it! The center should still be a gooey!
