The first glacier I touched with my hands was in Antarctica. The one just to the right of me in this picture and video pan. A colleague today mentioned she recently saw and touched a #glacier for the first time last week in Alaska, after having spent years seeing them only in pictures. Hearing that instantly transported me back to this #exhilarating moment where despite it being #freezing in #Antarctica, I took off my glove and walked up to the glacier just to feel it for a while. #Glaciers are one of the most #beautiful sites to look at in the Antarctic #DryValleys where this shot was taken. They look like spilled cake frosting gently oozing down the mountains, and yet they’re perfectly still. Locked in time, at least to our perception. Despite their stillness, they are an incredible illustration of power and #naturalwonder.
