Hey. Hey you. Want to see a supernova remnant?⁣ ⁣ When a star exploded, shockwaves swept across the cosmos at nearly the speed of light. We call the remnant of this particular explosion Cassiopeia A (Cas A),⁣ ⁣ X-ray light from Cas A has been studied in a new way using our Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE). Its findings suggest that Cas A's magnetic fields are oriented radially, spreading out from the center.⁣ ⁣ This image of Cas A is a composite of three telescopes: @NASAChandraXRay in blue, turquoise from IXPE, and gold from the @NASAHubble telescope.⁣ ⁣ Image description: Blue shockwaves at the center of the photo emanate outwards like a cloudy bubble. At the fringes of the cloud, elements of turquoise appear before giving way to black space surrounding the supernova aftermath. Gold splashes are dotted all around.⁣ ⁣ Credit: X-ray: Chandra: NASA/CXC/SAO, IXPE: NASA/MSFC/J.
