When construction began on the Fox Tucson Theatre in 1929, it was an age of extravagant movie theatres, known as Picture Palaces. Many of these included Art Deco design themes, which mixed very ‘modern’ motifs—drawn from the rapid rise of industry and technology in the early 1900s—with ‘exotic’ imagery inspired by Ancient Egypt and Indigenous art. #indiginous #artdeco #southwest #desert
