By applying pressure to acupoints on the body (a practice called acupressure) you can get some of the same benefits as acupuncture — no needles necessary! According to Chinese Medicine, invisible energy pathways called meridians flow within the body. Acupressure points lie along those meridians and by stimulating them (usually with just your fingertips), you can enhance the flow of energy and alleviate the symptoms of common ailments, such as headaches, nausea, insomnia and more. These three acupressure points help to mitigate stress and anxiety, according to Sian James, DACM, LAc, an acupuncturist based in New York. Here she explains how to locate and use them: + Anmian: Located at the base of the skull, about three finger widths behind the earlobe, this point is known to relieve insomnia. Alternate between applying and releasing soft pressure to stimulate this point or use one finger to massage it in a clockwise motion. + Neiguan (Pericardium 6): Located about three finger widths below the wrist, this point is used to relieve feelings of nausea that are caused by anxiety. Gently press and release this point with your index finger or thumb. + Yintang: Located at the midpoint between the eyebrows, also known as “the third eye”. Start by applying light pressure to this point with one finger and increase the pressure if you feel comfortable. . . . #thewell #wellness #health #healthy #lifestyle #selfcare #selflove #fitness #supportlocal #skincare #business #explore #acupressure #acupunture #acupressurepoints #chinesemedicine
