Alberta Mateo comes from a long lineage of red clay artists. When she was young and wanted to study, her father told her school was no use to girls. In her community at the time, women were not even permitted to be seen out alone. She and some of her sisters chose not to marry in effort to find some independence and pursue their craft professionally. Today, they still support eachother. Alberta took a huge risk in disobeying her father and potentially being casted out of her community. Years later, she has created a successful red clay business and has paved the way for young women in her community. Her story and her work are inspiring. Please visit @mujeresdelbarrorojo while in Oaxaca, MX. And thank you to @yetiinoaxaca for an incredible day focused on inspiring women in this community❤️🔥
