Slavery and colonization might have certainly ended decades ago in some places, but the struggle for liberation and freedom is still ongoing. Until this day, African and diaspora communities all over the world are making the journey towards a more free existence, dancing to the rhythm of the African proverb: “When you don't know where you are going - and where you are - look at where you come from.” For the upcoming @parasite_radio episode, we have invited social scientist, writer and researcher Elisa Larkin Nascimento (@elisalarkinn), to share more insights on the wonderful work of @ipeafro (Institute for Afro-Brazilian Research and Studies); an institution that was founded by the late Abdias Nascimento in 1981 upon his return to Brazil after 13 years of exile in the US. As director of IPEAFRO, Elisa Nascimento a.o. coordinates Abdias Nascimento’s archives and artistic collections. On Sunday September 11 2022 at 11:00h, co-curator Aude Christel Mgba (@audechristel) and host Raziyah Heath (@squishybvb), will together with Elisa Nascimento discuss the necessity for bringing back and sharing Black African heritage, legacy and knowledge in the fight for justice, commemoration and dignity. The conversation can be attended physically @stedelijkmuseum or online via @parasite_radio Photo credits: 1) Chester Higgins Photography 2) Maarten Nauw Photography
