HOW TO MAKE YOUR FAUX PLANTS LOOK REAL my favorite faux plant hacks 🌿 I honestly used to be a plant snob and very against faux plants because I felt like they looked immediately fake— but ya know what? sometimes a girl can’t keep a plant alive (ahem, me) and life gets busy and a fake plant is SO much easier. I’ve also sadly 💀 two olive plants already and that already cost me some $$ I’ll never get back. plus, there are also some really faux nice ones out there that look pretty convincing! here are a few of my favorite extra ways to make sure your plant goes from faux to fabulous: ⌓ switch out the pot. 90% of the time, the original pot the plant came in is too small, disproportionate, not cute, or cracked (like mine 🙃). find a bigger pot or one that you love and add your faux plant right inside. ⌓ stuff gaps with scraps of newspaper, bubble wrap, old towels, etc. this will keep the plant from moving around in the new, bigger pot. ⌓ cut a circle from canvas cloth (I’ll show more of this process in my Stories today!) and trim a thin slice out (like a pizza!) so that it fits around the base of the plant stem. tuck the edges to the side of the pot to make sure it’s snug. ⌓ add a thin layer of dry potting soil to the top. this is my favorite part! I know a lot of people prefer moss or something else, but personally I think soil looks the most realistic (or rocks). I also love this whole hack together because it means you don’t need to fill the ENTIRE pot with soil, just the top layer. ⌓ finally, gently bend the branches. the biggest mistake is pulling the plant right out of the box and thinking it’s ready to be displayed— branches get all tucked in during transport, and they don’t naturally look like that. take a couple minutes to bend them around and stretch them away from the base of the tree.
