Ένα από τα πιο παράξενα εκθέματα του Μουσείου είναι αυτή η μαρμάρινη σφαίρα. Στη μία πλευρά της εικονίζεται ο Ήλιος ☀️, η προσωποποίηση του ηλιακού φωτός, με μαστίγιο και αναμμένους πυρσούς στα χέρια. Η υπόλοιπη επιφάνειά της είναι γεμάτη με σύμβολα, αλληγορικές παραστάσεις ζώων, αριθμούς και ακατανόητες επιγραφές. Μόνο μια λέξη, χαραγμένη σε έναν από τους πέντε τεμνόμενους κύκλους, διαβάζεται με βεβαιότητα: ΑΙΘΗΡ, αιθέρας, το πρώτο από τα πέντε στοιχεία της φύσης. Τα άλλα είναι η γη 🌳, το νερό 🌊, η φωτιά 🔥 και ο αέρας 💨. Η σφαίρα βρέθηκε θαμμένη στο θέατρο του Διονύσου και θεωρείται μαγικό αντικείμενο που σχετίζεται με τη λατρεία του Ήλιου. ΕΝ 👇 This marble sphere is one of the most bizarre exhibits of the Museum. On one side Helios ☀️ (Sun), the personification of solar light and the all-powerful Ruler of the Universe, is depicted holding a whip and three blazing torches. The remainder of the sphere is filled with symbols, allegorical animal scenes, numbers and incomprehensible inscriptions. Only one word, carved inside one of five intersecting circles, is clearly read: ΑΙΘΗΡ (ether), which is the first of nature's five elements with the rest being earth 🌳, water 🌊, fire 🔥 and air 💨.
