I am now writing to you from Conca del Sogno, the most beautiful restaurant on the Amalfi Coast; you wouldn’t even believe what I am looking at. It is set over an emerald-green ocean, with a small-quaint beach made up of multi-colored pebbles and some really interesting locals. We pulled in by boat and docked at the bottom of a flight of stairs, to be greeted by the owner Jury (I think it is pronounced your-ee). He was super friendly; he even joined us for a few drinks, and was kind enough to share the history of Conca del Sogno: It all started with Jury’s grandfather Pietro, back in the ‘50s. At first, Conca’s purpose was just to host Pietro’s friends and family. But word about this enchanting spot and its delicious food traveled fast. Soon, nearby boats and people passing by began stopping here for lunch to see what all the buzz was about. Pietro knew he had something special on his hands, so he made it official and opened his doors to the public. The only issue was that there were no nearby roads to get the freshest produce. Not a problem for Pietro, though, because he would just walk... 10 miles! I guess everyday was leg day for Pietro. As a child, Jury spent his summers at Conca del Sogno. I mean, why send your kid to camp when they can spend everyday exploring hidden caves and eating spaghetti pomodoro? In 1992, the management was passed down to Pietro’s children. By then, Jury was old enough to start bussing tables. There was no turning back- he was hooked. The early ‘00s was when Conca del Sogno went from small restaurant to iconic destination. And in recent years, Jury and the rest of the third generation have been given the reins of Conca. One of these days you’ll have to come back and experience the magic yourself. And by magic, I mean trying the Spaghetti Nerano (it’s Jury’s favorite). Anyways, we miss you Grandpa! Will continue writing you as we journey through Italy! Te Amo”
