Yesterday, we laid our sweet boy to rest 🌅 Roman Brooks Woodward is more than our angel, but also our hero. I’ve finally heard from the doctors what is to believed to be the cause of his passing. A severe placental abruption. Placental abruptions are extremely rare. They only happen in about 1% of pregnancies. But when they are severe, they can cause death to the baby, the mother, or both. Killian and I have been reflecting on this the past few days. Part of me is so broken because I would have done anything for my baby boy. I would have given my life for his in an instant if I had the chance. But we think Roman saved my life. We think he knew that I needed to stay here on Earth with his big brother Brooks and his Daddy and for that, he will forever be our little hero— so strong and selfless and too pure for this Earth 💙 Yesterday, we had a beautiful tribute to Roman. Roman’s name was originally chosen because we found out his gender this summer while we were on a family vacation in Rome, Italy. But now we feel the name fits him even more as he is such a strong and powerful little boy. There are certainly lots of analogies that we could make from his name and its meaning, and I’m sure we will continue to find them as time progresses. One that strikes me most is about ruins. The city of Rome has many different and sets of ancient ruins. Most famously the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. When we hear the word ruins, and when we hear that something is ruined, we often have a negative connotation, but in Rome, there is beauty in those ruins. Those ruins are resilient. Still standing after centuries & centuries of time & travel. People travel from far and wide to see the ruins & learn from the ruins & let the ruins speak to them. Even in the midst of the ruins of this horrible tragedy, there is still tremendous beauty in the life and memory of Roman. The city of Rome had to be rebuilt, just as our family will have to be rebuilt. Rome was resilient, and we will have to be resilient too. Some day, after years and years of rebuilding, our family will all reunite in Heaven, and I have no doubt, it will be the most beautiful thing anyone has ever seen.
