Some news!!! As you have probably heard by now, the hardcover collector’s edition of RWRB drops on October 11! @macmillanusa put together this graphic to highlight the special features on this baby (including an all-new Henry POV bonus chapter full of glimpses into his and Alex’s future), and I’m so excited to finally be able to share for the first time that the incredible @vkelleyart illustrated the endpapers! If you’ve read this book and spent any time on instagram, you’ve probably seen Venessa’s amazing art of Alex & Henry. Hers was some of the very first reader-made art I ever had the joy to come across after RWRB came out, so when my editor asked if I had any artists in mind for the endpapers, Venessa just felt right. We collaborated so much on these pages, pulling composition inspiration from vintage lithographs and antique Hardy Boys endpapers. Venessa reworked her own designs for Alex & Henry with notes from me on how they looked in my head (Me: More lips on Henry! / V: Got it, I’ll give him a lip job.) , and we decided together which little scenes and vignettes to include. The front endpapers feature scenes that took place in the western hemisphere (DC, New York, Rio, Texas, etc), and the back is all scenes from the other side of the world. And, under the back flap, there’s a little surprise—a snapshot on the front stoop of a certain brownstone from the bonus chapter. I’m so, so, so in love with how they came together.
