Wa Na Wari's Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute invites artists with connections to the Central District and/or the Seattle waterfront to create, lay out and design a zine to activate pre-conducted oral histories.
.
Wa Na Wari’s Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute is commissioning one artist to create, design and lay out a Zine – a low cost, DIY, low tech, non-commercial print-work. The Zine will activate a series of oral histories recorded between 2021 and 2022. We are calling on local illustrators, photographers, poets, and visual artists with experience in design/creating and laying out printed materials to apply to help activate these stories for the community.
The selected artist will create, layout and design a zine centering community stories collected about the many contributions Black folks have made to Seattle’s waterfront. Stories collected include themes of union organizing, the longshore profession and Black and Indigenous histories on the waterfront.
.
