šŸ•The History of Sunday Night Pizza!šŸ•There are lots of new faces here, so I thought I’d re-share the history of my Sunday tradition/explain why you see some version of this pizza in your feed almost every week. šŸ˜‰ __ Growing up, my family had California Pizza Kitchen every Sunday night—sometimes takeout, sometimes in the restaurant—which was hands down my favorite night of the week. Yes, I loved pizza, but it was really the comfort of the ritual and family QT that I looked forward to, even if my dad made us suffer through 60 Minutes on the takeout nights. I now get freakishly excited for 60 Minutes...we’ve come full circle!! __ I did my best to carry on the Sunday pizza tradition solo in college (usually cuddling my slices in bed with a Bud Light), and when I met Logan at the ripe old age of 23, he happily adopted my favorite ritual. We were a straight up Dominos couple—deep dish with pepperoni, pepper, onions, and extra sauce—from late 2011-2012 (watching the pizza be made and sent on its way via the app was a THRILL), but after roughly 69 incapacitated Mondays, a change had to be made. We then experimented with a variety of NYC pizzas, ultimately entering a 2-year love affair with Spunto (half Meatball, half Chickpotle). Then, around 2014, we found ourselves at @Rubirosanyc upon the recommendations of friends, and....we never looked back. __ We ate at an actual table a few times before moving to the bar, where you could find us every Sunday night barring travel or extreme illness. (Many of you did, and we loved meeting you!!!) We’ve celebrated holidays, promotions, book deals, birthdays, anniversaries, and life there on Sundays for the past 7+ years with half Tie-Dye, half Rubirosa Supreme pizzas and countless IPAs. And when we can’t be there, the tradition continues at home. (My at-home pizza game has gotten significantly better over the years.) __ We sat outside with Logan’s parents and Taco tonight, and it was a true Sunday treat. Do you have a favorite weekend tradition (food or otherwise, active or lapsed)? I’d love to know yours. ā¤ļø
