I took a moment this morning to check out the new train. It’s been in the works for a very, very long time. The line begins in #Dakar and ends in Diamniadio, just about an hour outside of the capital. I got a ticket in the premier class which was 2,500CFA and that’s about $5USD. So the relatively newly renovated station in Plateau is beautiful. I haven’t been in this station since the trains ran from Dakar to #Bamako, which was about 20 years ago. That route has been discontinued for some time now. (And that’s a really long ride, about 23 hours, but that’s another story.) So far, the train line has 14 stops and will expand to the airport (which was as other project that was in the works for a long time, for a while I thought the new airport was just a rumor!) While the railway project alleviated some of the traffic for commuters, it also displaced many communities as major projects like unfortunately often does. Though I hear there was some compensation involved. Anyway, the first photo is of Bachir who has been working with the railway since it’s opening in December.
