I worked with Paloma on this shoot some years ago, I believe this was 2017. At the time she was starting to leave a mark on the industry and had done some major campaigns. I remember thinking she was probably the smartest person I'd dressed (and that's saying a lot bc I've dressed really smart people). She was really eloquent when she spoke, and I remember her saying that she didn't understand why agencies divided "plus" size girls from all the other girls when bodies are just bodies no matter the size. The fact that the other models where just called "women" or "men" on the board meant that her bodytype was considered different, and exception to the industry, which she considered absurd because she felt (and looked) perfectly comfortable, beautiful and powerful in her skin. She thought that all models, regardless of age/size/height/gender should be put on a same board to get rid of labels. I also remember at the time as a stylist it was really hard to get high end designer samples on plus size. I remeber thinking "I'll ask the brands she's done campaigns for, I'm sure they'll have samples her size" - but they didn't. I used a mix of oversize coats, mens coats, and some plus size brands. She expressed her discomfort towards the fact that as a model you're expected to fit a sample size 2 and she was so right - this has changes, but to an extent. What percentage of the population is a size 2 anyways? She wasn't angry or mad at the industry, but sounded determined to make a change. I'm not surprised by all she's achieved, so happy to see her become one of the supermodels of our generation. Looks can put you on the spotlight, but brains eventually make a difference.
