The shape of this dress is inspired by dresses that my mother asked her tailor to copy. She loved Laura Ashley’s pieces but she did not own one. The British expatriates who lived in Kano were the ones who introduced my mother to the Laura Ashley brand. Her tailor never really got the shape right. He and my mother would argue about where he had gone wrong. Sometimes, he would create something disastrously and utterly different from what my mother sketched. The Greta Dress is available online.
