5 places not to miss in the Icelandic Westfjords by @macs_explore 1. Látrabjarg These impressive sea cliffs are located on the south end of the Westfjords and relatively easy to access. There is a trail that takes you from the parking lot up along the cliffs. If you’re there between May-August, you will likely see puffins too! 2. Dynjandi Falls Undoubtely one of the most amazing waterfalls in Iceland–you cannot miss Dynjandi in the Westfjords. It takes some effort to get to but trust us, it’s 100% worth it. There is a hiking trail that takes you up to every “tier” of the waterfall. 3. Hellulaug Hot Springs There are a few hot springs in the Westfjords (some free, some paid), but these were hands-down our favorite ones. Hellulaug sits right off the side of the road overlooking the ocean. It can be a bit crowded here, but if you come early in the morning or late in the evening, you might get lucky and get these hot springs to yourself. 4. Rauðisandur Beach This red sand beach doesn’t look so red, but it’s still really beautiful and a must when you’re visiting the Westfjords. There’s a cute little French cafe that sits across the street from the beach that sells lovely pastries, soup and hot cocoa. 5. Hornstrandir Nature Reserve By far our favorite place in the Westfjords (and probably all of Iceland!) was Hornstrandir. Mind-blowing scenery, arctic foxes, and hardly any people around make this destination extra special. To get there, you have to take a 2.5 ferry ride there (there are no roads or cars here, only hiking trails) and then there are multiple hiking trails to access. 📷 @macs_explore 📍 Westfjords, Iceland
