Last October I was bumming around @glaciernps living out of my car and sleeping in my friends spare bedroom of her run down trailer attached to a bar. It was starting to get cold, the days were getting shorter and most of my friends had left for the season. I didn't exactly know why I was sticking around but I had shot with @ladzinski earlier in the week and he mentioned he might hit me up to shoot later, an opportunity I wouldn't pass up for anything. As the days went by my hopes of getting to know that legend of a photographer slowly diminished. I had also heard about another national geographic photographer in the area doing a story about millennials in the national parks and reached out to tell him how I was spending a lot of time cliff jumping in the park. I was afraid to spend to much time in the park since I wouldn't have cellphone service and if one of these guys decided to finally reach out I didn't want to miss that opportunity. I hadn't heard back and was getting ready to say goodbye to montana and head south when I finally got that call from @arni_coraldo. Despite having super short notice and daylight quickly disappearing we headed to the closest spot in the park I could think of to jump which I had only jumped in for the first time a couple weeks before. It took jump after jump to the point I started to lose feeling in my hands and feet due to the numbing cold of the glacier river. I'd never really jumped for a professional photo before but it really pushed me to tweak my form as @arni_coraldo made slight adjustments in between each shot, both of us fine tuning our craft together for that perfect photo. I was incredibly honored when nearly 10
months later I got the news that this photo had been selected to be featured in the cover story of this months issue of national geographic which was news to me since I thought this was just going online not in print. I also learned today that this photo was an alternate option for the cover of the magazine when I stumbled across a photo of it printed on the copies that shipped out to Thailand. Thank you all for following me in this journey. Link to the story in my bio
