Boise has a great variety of hiking trails surrounding the city! Hiking to an abandoned mine might have to be my favorite. This is the Adelmann Mine trail. The mine was active in the early 1900s and mined gold, silver, lead and quartz. You’ll hike up an old road with amazing views along the way to reach the mine. It is so eerie to see the mine up close. ⚠️ As with any outdoor adventure, it is so important to leave no trace. Pack out all trash, stay on the trail, respect wildlife and do not leave any mark that you were there. If you’re unsure about the 7 principles of leaving no trace, visit lnt.org. Details: - 4.7 miles - 1,322 feet of elevation gain - Rated moderate - 25 minutes from downtown Boise - Steep at times - Keep an eye out for snakes and expect to see a ton of giant grasshoppers in the summer - No cell reception at the trailhead. Download offline maps on All Trails and Google ahead of time - Free to visit - You’ll walk by a river management building at the very beginning. It feels strange but you’re in the right place - No restroom or water at trailhead. Come prepared. Do you enjoy hiking to abandoned places? Based on spending a month in Boise, I have a new blog with my favorite activities! Check it out for a 3 day itinerary for visiting Idaho’s capital city. #visitidaho #visitboise #exploreidaho #shehikes #womenwhohike #adventuregirl #idahoexplored #outdoorwoman #girlswhohike #onlyinidaho
