What lies beneath
I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to spend time with whales underwater. After months of watching them from the surface during winter months here in Hawai’i (and often above with the drone) it’s indescribable to spend time in places where in-water viewing is allowed. Once a whale has dipped below the surface our imaginations take over, but I’ve rarely found that I’m able to conjure the action comparatively well. In this particular competition pod, all four whales were slamming into each other, twisting and rolling into the channel between Tahiti & Moorea. I’ll never take the experiences I have at home for granted, but these brief glances at life underwater are an invaluable aid to my understanding and ability to guide effectively. Who’s excited for the return of Kona’s humpbacks?
