Health disparities that Black people face did not start, nor end with the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 was a brutal reminder about just how bad the inequities in health care are. This is why we advocate for #medicareforall and other ways that ensure Black folks have equitable, quality health care. That’s why before the end of the month, we want to uplift that September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle Cell is more common in Black peoples in the US compared to other ethnicities. People with #SCD have less access to comprehensive team care than people with genetic disorders. This, in conjunction with housing discrimination, poverty, and other health care inequities, contribute to the very reason why Black communities disproportionately suffer when it comes to our health and well-being. 💉🩸 It is SO important to get tested for sickle cell trait, especially if you are of African descent and do not know your status. We keep us safe in many ways — and getting educated and spreading awareness about sickle cell is one of the many ways we can help advance health equity for Black people around the world.
