Got the chance to access some of the pieces part of the next @sothebys Art of the Islamic World and India auction taking place in London on October 26th.
Was very impressed by the illustrated Folio from the famous Shahnameh (Persian “Book of Kings”) made for Shah Tahmasp of Persia... estimated between £4 to £6M. The Shahnameh is considered as the Persia national epic telling stories from Prehistoric times to Sassanian dynasties. It has 258 illustrations now dispersed in several locations of the world: 100 in the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, 76 in the MET in New York and other illustrations in other institutions and collections.
The auction displays as well an Ottoman Gold Hajji flask (probably used for ZamZam water) and Moghul inspired North Indian jewelry.
In parallel, some contemporary artworks can be seen by Palestinian Samia Halaby, Lebanese Aref el Rayess and Jamil Molaeb and Emirati Mohamed Kazem.
Thank you to @maieldib and all @sothebys Dubai team for the great welcome
