Though attempting to summarise 2021 in a single post seems as difficult as trying to understand where the year went, here some of my reflections:
For Girls United, it has been a year of growth – from our club teams which saw over 500 girls training weekly in Mexico and London; to launching the Love the Game programme in partnership with @nikelondon which quickly reached over 200 girls; taking an amazing team of women to compete in Tabasco; and welcoming many incredible new coaches and staff to the organisation.
Some of my favourite moments the year were watching our youth teams playing in matches – not just cracking football, but also that feeling when hearing parents, siblings, coaches and players cheer for Girls United, nothing quite like it.
I was humbled and honoured this year for the feature in @versus “Game Changers PlayList”, @nike & @copa90 "Architects of New Football" and to make the Strand wall as a @kclalumni Distinguished Alumni – these recognitions belong without a doubt to the entire Girls United team, all of whom put a shift in every day for a cause that unites us.
As the new year starts, I am immensely grateful for all the staff, coaches and supporters who made it all possible. I am sure 2022 will hold some fresh challenges and exciting milestones – here is to making some massive strides towards a world with a level playing field.
