Anishinabek Nation Leadership is once again encouraging people across Canada to reflect on the important history of this country on July 1. Canada Day celebrations and events often ignore the impact that colonization has had on First Nations, overlooking the fact that the struggle with the State to become an equal Treaty partner continues today. The Anishinabek Nation encourages all occupants of this land to take the time to listen, learn, and reflect on July 1. Here are some ways that you can support truth and reconciliation on July 1: 🔸Learn about the land you occupy: www.anishinabek.ca/land-acknowledgement/or download the app called, Whose Land, available in the App Store and on Google Play. 🔸Learn about the treaties: https://www.ontario.ca/page/treaties 🔸Listen and learn from an Indian Residential School or Day School Survivor when they speak: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaQ0wUvBUPeQ7feDYNnPSSgXkmEG8pnZN 🔸Wear Orange. Take the time to learn about the significance of wearing orange by visiting the Orange Shirt Society: www.orangeshirtday.org 🔸Commit to Truth and Reconciliation, every day.
