Quick, what color is the utterly unique 4.04 step-cut cushion(!) diamond that rocks between two super sparkling icy-white half-moon stones in this drop-dead gorgeous ring? We'll give you a hint: it's somewhere between yellow and blue--sort of. Ok, it's green or, as specifically described by the GIA: Fancy, grayish, yellowish-green.
What creates this color you ask? The answer is radiation! Fear not, it's hardly enough to cause harm. Science-wise, alpha particles from uranium impart a green skin to a diamond, while beta and gamma rays cause the green color to diffuse throughout the stone. If the stone is irradiated long enough to alter the crystal's lattice structure, the result is a green diamond.
There you have it--a stunning ring and a cool science lesson.
