How I cleared my acne breakout & hyperpigmentation in 10 days.
Recently I had an acne breakout induced by medication leaving quite deep hyperpigmentation on my chin area.
1. Salicylic acid is a first step when dealing with pimples or acne. It targets deep into the pores to lift sebum & dirt as well as regulate oil production.
2. Niacinamide! I used this twice a day. Niacinamide actually conditions the skin and reduces irritation from other products. It also regulates oil & helps to even the skin.
3. Retinoid. I use retinoids such as tretinoin or retinol regularly. This helped me shift my hyperpigmentation as it increases skin turnover.
4. AHA. I used glycolic acid because my skin is well seasoned to acids. Lactic or Mandelic acid works great for most & for those who don’t use strong acids regularly. Deep exfoliation helps products to penetrate better as well as helping to expose new more even skin.
5. Hydroquinone. This is definitely what I attribute fast clearing of hyperpigmentation to. Hydroquinone at 4% is a great treatment when used correctly. I used this as a spot treatment, only treating areas of hyperpigmentation and only short term! I use this for no longer than 6 weeks at a time, up to twice a day. I then take at least a 6-8 week break before using it again if necessary.
Disclaimer: This is what worked for me. Hyperpigmentation and acne can be be a long journey. You will not always be able to clear either quickly. Skin takes time to renew itself and for products to work. A lot of the products were already in my skincare routine such as tretinoin which would not work as quickly if I started the routine fresh!
