After over seven decades on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II has peacefully passed away in her Scottish home at Balmoral Castle. She was surrounded by the love of many of her family. Reports are that many among her four children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren were by her side. The successor to the throne, Prince Charles, was also present. ⁠ ⁠ At 96 years old, Queen Elizabeth II has led a rich and fulfilling life. She was a modern monarch, and witnessed fantastic events as they unfolded throughout the years. She was there during the last vestiges of the British empire, and saw the rise of the Commonwealth of Nations. She oversaw her country as it joined the EU and left during Brexit. She has witnessed history—and in many ways, made it herself. ⁠ ⁠ A devoted leader, she pledged her life to serve her country, and led the Royal Family into the 21st century.
