At A. Lange & Söhne, the significance of the figure 5000% is anything but small. The giant TRIPLE SPLIT is a 5000% magnification of the original timepiece. Constructing a watch of this magnitude came with unique challenges. For instance, rebuilding the watch at this size with the same materials and no adaptions would result in the giant watch weighing 125.000 times as much as the original TRIPLE SPLIT. This means a 1-gram part of the wristwatch would weigh 125 kilograms in the giant version. Therefore, we had to use weight saving methods, like hollowing out pieces, to a degree that allowed us to handle the parts but still keep the same look and elaborate finish of the original timepiece. Additionally, manufacturing Lange’s signature blued screws also posed a problem on an enlarged scale.
