While so many of us vacillate between romanticising and shopping for handloom as some charity project- the real on-ground situation is a whole other deal. @lakshmimad_art contribution to @santati_then_now_next curated by @lavinabaldota was one of my fav pieces at the exhibit last week. It’s Kerala Kasavu woven with Baalarampuram weavers with words like “any-body” “every-body” “some-body” and “no-body”. It’s a commentary on how the hands that weave many a times are unable to wear or afford the same clothes. Clothes carry within them a class divide and politics especially handwoven ones.
