Real things I’ve said in therapy sessions this week. 1. “This is your space. You don’t have to filter or edit yourself here. I’m here to support you exactly as you are.” → Why it works: This reassures clients that therapy is a judgment-free zone, inviting authenticity and building trust. 2. “Let’s pause for a moment—how do you think that really felt for you, emotionally and physically?” → Why it works: This encourages clients to slow down and connect with their internal experience. 3. “Part of this work is learning to accept what we can’t change, and change what we can’t accept.” → Why it works: This helps clients differentiate between acceptance and agency. It introduces a grounded mindset shift that allows for both surrender and empowered action. 4. “Given everything you’ve learned, what might you want to do differently this time around?” → Why it works: This centers growth and learning. It prompts reflection without shame and encourages clients to apply insight in a forward-moving, compassionate way. 5. “Can we take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come? This is a real win, and it matters.” → Why it works: This reinforces progress, which is easy to overlook in therapy. It builds motivation, supports self-worth, and combats the inner critic. 6. “You’re doing hard, brave work—and it’s okay if it doesn’t always feel easy. Growth rarely does.” → Why it works: This normalizes discomfort in the healing process. It validates struggle while honoring the courage it takes to keep showing up. ✨Across all six, the common threads are validation, self-compassion, emotional safety, and empowered reflection.
