It is important to remember that 40 years ago today, July 16, 1984, the world received the first body of work by Sade with their debut album, Diamond Life. While they are indeed a group, it is the soulful and seductive voice of Helen Folasade Adu that has stood the test of time and continues to serve as a huge inspiration. While Love Deluxe will forever be my all time favorite album, there would be no Soldier of Love, Lovers Rock, Love Deluxe, Stronger Than Pride, or Promise, without the groundwork that was laid with Diamond Life.
