Our @carlosdavidstudio Barcelona Estate project, featured in Architectural Digest. Link to article in bio. This project was a full circle moment, in every sense. Those of you who know me, know that I first designed this house 15 years ago (when I was a baby designer). I took the assignment SO seriously at the time, because let’s face it, who gets to work on a project like this, ever—let alone at 28 years old. I’m self-taught, have zero formal design school training. Just grit and hopefully a little bit of good taste. I have learned this craft from studying my library of magazines and books (and now Instagram’s endless images)...and doing. This house, many years ago, was the best design education a bright-eyed interior designer could ask for. And I used every tool in my toolbox to get it done. The clients loved every inch, every fabric & tape trim, back then. Phew, and thank goodness, because is there any better feeling, on earth, than validation of your hard work!? Like all things though, a touch-up was needed, and our dear clients tasked us not only with a refresh of the main house, but also asked @mr.carlosgarciavelez to design and construct a whole new structure on the property. Now, no project is without its challenges and I was legitimately terrified we wouldn’t be able to deliver (that lasted about 2 weeks, thankfully). First, engineering an all glass & steel pavilion (built *around* an 80 year old tree) is no easy feat. Working in a country where I (still) haven’t learned the language. Designed/built mostly from 4,000 miles away. And the timeline: we did it in 8 months. Carlos, you’re a genius, a never-ending fountain of incredible ideas, and a real sweetheart, a true pleasure to work with! I may be biased, but everyone says it. So, thank you, my darling. We did it! Thank you to the inimitable @douglasfriedman whose photography magic is unparalleled. Thank you to Javier & Marisa for trusting us with your jewel of a home, and for being a dream to work with. And last but not least, thank you to the wonderful AD team for recognizing our labor of love, and giving us this platform @amyastley, @madeleineluckel, @zoesessums, @lizziesoufleris xoDL
