October 31, 2025. Point Clear to Magnolia Springs to Pensacola. October 31, 2025. Point Clear to Magnolia Springs to Pensacola. After 10 days in Alabama, it was time to head back home to the Golden State. So we left Point Clear and headed for Pensacola, FL from where we’ll fly home. On the way we stopped at Magnolia Springs, AL because of what we’d heard about the quaint nature of the town and the reputation it has for the ways the trees grow over the road creating a living tunnel. We weren’t disappointed. It was unique and had a combination of charm and beauty. From Magnolia Springs we headed toward Pensacola and particularly the Naval Aviation Museum there. When we arrived and turned into the road leading to the museum, we were stopped at a guard shack by a Naval Security sailor who informed us that the museum was closed because of the governmental shut down in Washington. We cursed both the Republicans and the Democrats. However that did give us an incentive to get creative and explore the town. Old Pensacola is quite interesting and we really enjoyed walking around the town after a pretty nice lunch of raw oysters, sautéed mussels and a grits-blackened shrimp dish. Later we found a quiet wine bar for a modest dinner. As much as we’re ready to go home, it is sad to end this wonderful vacation that has taken us to New England (Vermont), French Canada (Rosemère), Boston, Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Point Clear, Magnolia Springs and Pensacola. We’ve had a good time and are grateful for the opportunity to spend time with people we love.
