Myself and my love @orionisaacs_ are so excited to be heading to Malta to exhibit in @rosa_kwir’s ‘Tender & Masculine’ 11-artist-strong group show, which opens next Friday (& runs until 9 Jan 2023!) ❤️ Over the summer, we have been expanding our portrait-interview series on trans faggotry into a larger project titled ’t-fags’. 🏳️‍⚧️🚬 For the group exhibition, we will create an installation of “the t-boy bedroom we never had.” This documents trans men, transmasc and non-binary T4T individuals, couples and polycules who self identify with the term ‘fag’ through a series of photographic portraits, presented alongside a soundscape of interviews with their subjects, and various talismans/objects which viewers are invited to engage with. Portraits are presented as souvenirs of a trans fag experience that has rarely been represented: a custom printed towel, a calendar of t-fag pin-ups, posters and postcards of a reinvented faggotry rarely seen on walls. The audio element demonstrates the expansiveness of what ‘fag’ can mean to different trans males/mascs – whether it be the nuanced dynamics within T4T lovestories, a desire to access cis gay spaces or imagining an entirely new expression of homoeroticism beyond the femme-masc binary. In the past, the experience of trans people who identify as gay or fag has slipped between the margins in photographic representation – often inaccurately archived as sapphic. Our project celebrates how trans fags today are claiming the historically loaded term to reimagine masculinities that embrace femininity, tenderness and gender expansiveness.
