Some portraits under the theme “rethink the body” with a model and friend in her 9th month of pregnancy. We reflected on our society’s expectations of pregnancy and the traditional way pregnant women have been showcased in photography, which usually highlights motherhood. She told me how one’s personality suddenly becomes invisible and the question “how are you?” mainly refers to the fetus and how everybody touches the belly without asking and dictates what to do and what not to do. We developed an image of a strong, independent woman in self-defense, who makes her own rules, and the character perfectly mirrors the model’s personality.
