On May 19th 2023 at 4:32am, I gave birth to a healthy and happy baby girl named Erin Choi. From the beginning, I knew what my first child’s name was going to be. Her name was inspired in two ways: The name Erin is of Irish origin. In Ireland the name Erin, means peace. Her name in Japanese Kanji is 恵琳 The first Kanji 恵 means blessing, favor, grace and her second kanji 琳 means precious stone. I grew up for the last 10 years watching Attack on Titans, from high school to my late twenties that show has had a big impact on my own perspective in my life. Eren, the main character was a big(if not, the main) influence on deciding that Erin was going to be my child’s name. His mom, in Season 3 episode 11 said something that resonated with me deeply when I was rewatching the series during my pregnancy. His mom, Carla states to Kieth, “Is it wrong to not be special?” “I don’t think that way. When it comes to my child, it’s fine if he is never great. He doesn’t have to be better than anyone…..He’s already special because he was born into this world” (caption continues in comments)
