The MECCA x NGV Women in Design Commission invites internationally renowned female architects and designers to create new work for our Collection. The inaugural commission presents a large-scale installation by Mexico City–based architect Tatiana Bilbao – who is acclaimed for her ecologically sound, politically driven and socially responsible approach. Made of 18 concrete washbasins surrounded by a system of metal armatures threaded together by a series of collaborative textile-collages constructed from clothing donated by the public, Bilbao’s work focuses on the laundry as a site for transformation.
