Even if I'm chatting away with patients, my main focus is always on their skin. This is true for both skin examinations and surgery. Since I am a Mohs surgeon, all the skin cancer surgeries and reconstructions I do are on patients who are awake. The more we chat and joke, the more comfortable and fun the experience becomes for the patients. It's also special for my staff and I to learn all about our patients' lives and their families. We actually end up getting pretty close with our patients (especially the frequent flyers).
