That’s what she said 🤷♀️
There are quite a few different disciplines in the world of freediving. This video is an example of variable weight diving, where you hold onto something heavy (like a stack of weights as seen here, or a giant rock as they did in ancient civilizations who used freediving to collect treasures and resources from the ocean floor), ride that weight down to the bottom, then either kick or pull yourself back to the surface after releasing said heavy object.
This isn’t a discipline I get to practice often, as pulling the weights up is a chore in itself, but I really love doing this as a warmup dive when I’m setting up my buoy. It’s a ton of fun flying towards the bottom of the ocean without having to do anything but equalize on your way down, and it’s an awesome way to jump start your dive response and get your body ready for upcoming dives!
I’ve not been able to do much diving here as of late since we’ve been cruising through really cold areas, but I’m happy to announce that we are headed south for the winter in search of warmer water, and I will be back at the bottom of the ocean where I belong in no time ☺️
