Owls, Eagles and a longggg train journey... Ok so Little Owls are awesome, Black Kites are aeronauts, Vultures are dinosaurs...and the @hawkconservancy have a brand new bird of prey hospital😁 A while back I was invited to speak about the issues our conservation sector has with diversity in the UK, plus my love of raptors, both prehistoric and current, on the @hawkconservancy Trusts podcast Nature's A Hoot. It's so necessary to highlight the problems of ethnic and identity diversity in the nature arena in the UK, it is the second least diverse sector after farming, thus leading to lack of representation (nothing for people to follow or relate to), low access to education and information on issues that affect working class and minorities DIRECTLY, such as accessibility to nature/green spaces and even climate change. After this I was invited to witness the opening of the trusts new bird of prey hospital - the whole experience of going to the centre, seeing all the beautiful birds up close and personal, including my favourite owl species the Little Owl, and another of my favs the Egyptian Vulture, reminded me again why I love nature so much, and why I'm so passionate about studying it and saving it (sometimes experiencing something in front of you is so much better than just reading or hearing about it). I also met and spoke with one of the loveliest people - @meganmccubbinwild - someone who I've watched the journey of into this sector from a young age and who inspired me when I was first starting out!
