It’s a safe assumption the RANGE community is familiar with climbing superstar @ashimashiraishi. At just 21 years old, her prowess on the rock coupled with her expressive personal style has carried her from one genre-shattering brand partnership to another, from The North Face to Brain Dead and now onto Arc’teryx. Even with all those gifting and sponsorship offers, Shiraishi has consistently chosen to climb in pants made by a niche, little-known apparel designer on the fringe of outdoor style: her mother, Tsuya Shiraishi. (She’s pictured here with her dad, Hisatoshi).
Otake’s father owned a garment factory in Japan, and she's been sewing climbing pants for Shiraishi since the start of her daughter's career (all the way back to NYC’s Rat Rock at age six— yes, six). Before you go Googling, the pants aren’t available for purchase. Per a 2017 interview with @hypebeast, Shiraishi says "a ton of people, including The North Face, have asked my mom to sell them [the pants] but she’s always declined — she wants me to be unique."
