November 4, 2025. The Full Beaver Moon Is Upon Us. November 4, 2025. The Full Beaver Moon Is Upon Us. At 5:19 a.m. PST Wednesday, the 5th the Beaver Moon will have waxed full and also be a supermoon. This means that for the next couple of nights the moon should appear resplendent, full and beautiful. The name of this particular moon apparently comes from the fact that beavers are very active at this time of the year storing up food in their lodges for the winter. Another possible source of the name is that waterways and swamps begin to freeze at this time of year particularly in the colder parts of the world, and this is about the last opportunity to set traps to catch beavers for the purpose of providing warm fur for the cold winter to come. I’m not sure how much beaver trapping is done these days, but with the shortness of the days we have a longer period of darkness that will provide a great setting for moon gazing. A supermoon occurs when a full or new moon coincides with the moon's closest point in its orbit around Earth, known as perigee, according to NASA. A full moon at perigee can appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter. I always greet the arrival of every full moon with eagerness and enthusiasm. The effect of the longer night being lit up by that silver light is spectacular and uplifting. So, plan to spend at least a few minutes looking at the moon over the next few days. Maybe share a batch of hot toddies!
