My first kids book was released into the world today. And honestly I’m not okay. This picture was from last night at @parnassusbooks where I read it aloud to folks for the first time. I was not prepared for how vivid I not only remembered this story but the feelings that I still had attached to it. If you’ve read I Take My Coffee Black you’ll recognize the story almost immediately. Not only was I surprised how I felt but I was a little shocked to see how it was feeling to those hearing it. It occurred to me at that moment that with A Door Made For Me we had created something special. And then came today. The pictures and videos of all of you getting it FINALLY in your hands! Kids from all over turning the pages and having discussions about the choices that they would make if they were in my shoes. It has been so incredible to see. Like I said, I’m not okay. And right when I thought I was getting okay, I heard the audiobook for the first time and welp, WHO THE HELL IS CHOPPING ALL THESE ONIONS?!?!???? Friends, it’s all just so very beautiful.
