I choked up as I reminded her to be kind and sweet and a good friend to everyone. I held back tears when I told her to play with someone that might seem sad today...I held her hand as we walked up to her school that suddenly seemed so big for someone so small. She was so excited that Chris and I had to ask for hugs and kisses before she took off. She never even looked back. I cried...not because I was worried for her, not because she was upset and sad, I cried for myself. I cried because 4.5 years of being home with her suddenly didn’t seem like enough. I cried because just yesterday I was holding her in my arms and she needed me for everything. I cried for all the hugs and kisses and “I love you mommy”‘s that I’d miss during those 6 hours apart. Today she spread her little wings and jumped out of the nest, even just for a few hours...and she flew. No, she soared. When we picked her up, she was pushing other kids on the swings and didn’t want to leave. She was grinning from ear to ear and had already made friends.
