I will say I am a little disappointed but not necessarily surprised about some of the reactions to recent conversations about overconsumption and shopping addiction. I think a lot of people are feeling personally attacked and think that those of us speaking about this topic are calling them out or trying to “police” what they do. As with any other conversation about things regarding healthy habits and mental health specifically, if these behaviors and problems don’t apply to you, then the video isn’t for you! My goal is to help people who DO have a problem recognize the problem before it’s too late because this is absolutely an addiction or bad habit that you can pull yourself out of! There’s nothing judgemental about drawing attention to a community wide issue and saying “hey we can all support each other and help each other because a lot of us are experiencing the same thing”. I have been discussing social issues, mental health, addiction, and relating topics for yearssss on my main account @Nefertiti🌵 so this isn’t new territory for me. I regularly get backlash for speaking candidly about hot button topics. However, I feel a personal responsibility as someone with a decently sized platform to bring issues like this to light BECAUSE I know the influence I have on people. I have had so many people thank me for speaking about my experiences with bpd and bipolar disorder because it was the catalyst for them seeing help. Even if I can help just ONE person break free of this addiction, I feel like I’ve done my job. Shopping addiction is a REAL THING and so is overconsumption, and we can try to wrap it in a pretty bow and call it “self care” but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... 🦆 Nobody is saying that makes you a bad person but we need to be honest with ourselves. If you personally do not struggle with impulsivity, compulsive behaviors, or spending beyond your means, then please recognize that these videos are not made for you or to attack you. I also added some resources at the end that helped me realize I had a problem! #perfumetok #fragrancecommunity #perfumecollection #perfumecollector #overconsumption #overspending #consumerism #latestagecapitalism #spendingaddiction #shoppingaddiction
