💥OUT IN THE WILD💥 Nature is Queer. A simple enough tagline. But with HUGE waves made. If we approach conservation, biology, natural history, wildlife and the environment, in a spectrum based way that suggests that binary based learning is wrong and we have been taught incorrectly about everything, and then even more deeply explore what that means about us and society...we could save the planet. Queer people have led the way in environmental protection since there were movements of people on earth. It wasn't called the same thing, and the ideologies and expression may have changed, but we have ALWAYS been here. The exclusion of our community and other minorities that overlap from natural spaces is damaging. I was lucky enough to be invited by the fabulous @canklemorris to speak as part of a gloriously queer panel at one of the largest wildlife film festivals in the world on what it means to be queer and a Muslim South Asian trans non binary woman in this industry, how we are trying to change it and what obstacles we have faced. To be a part of this conversation is such a great honour and to have spoken on this panel meant so much. What we need is for people to listen and to stop following blindly what we have been told before because it just won't work.
