Here’s my entry for the final round of the makeup contest of @vladamua & @byartis in support to Ukraine 🇺🇦💙 #artisxvladamua My whole look is inspired by the Kokum scarves that have become a symbol of unification between Ukrainians and Indigenous people across my own country, Canada. “Kokum” is a Cree word for Grandmother. The Kokum scarf in Ukrainian is referred to as “Babas/Бабуся” to many, meaning also Grandmother. The beauty of the Kokum scarf holds the historical symbolism of strength, friendship, unity, and respect in honor of our beloved grandmothers. The impact of the war in Ukraine has surely broken the heart of the populations in Canada. Indigenous people across the country, especially in Alberta where the largest population of Ukrainians is located, have been showing their support to Ukraine by wearing Ukrainian scarves (Kokum scarves) and also by posting photos/videos on social media wearing them. Kokum scarves are a true symbol of unity and togetherness and people wear it to show their support to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine 🇺🇦🫶🏼💙 This makeup is also a great example of unity and togetherness cause if we look separately at each flower, we can see some flaws and see that they aren’t perfect but all together they look beautiful.
