Thank you @glamour_sa magazine for honouring me with the ‘Fashion game-changer’ award last night at this years Women of the Year awards. At my core, I’m just a girl who’s obsessed with 50’s and 80’s fashion and as I said in my acceptance speech last night, I was surprised to have been standing there in the first place, as I’ve been so accustomed to being overlooked for the work that I do in fashion, and nothing else. It’s crippling knowing that the South African fashion industry is light years behind in their weak strides for progression and inclusivity of all bodies, but I do also say this all the time: just because I have a fat body, doesn’t mean my work has to be centered around this fact by default. The work I do has NOTHING to do with my body and the size of it. I’m not a body positive activist. I’m not a plus-size model. I’m not a plus size —anything. These labels continue to other me, alienate me from my peers in the industry, and quite frankly? are SO distracting to the work that I ACTUALLY do. Among creating art and visual storytelling with just clothing, I really just dress my ass off and that’s it. Let’s celebrate THAT and nothing else. Huge thank you, to you, my online community, who have listened to my many cries and comforted me around these hard topics. It’s been a rough time but also the best 10 years with you all and god, I love you guys. I have a body, that I love deeply and live everyday to dress it to the nines, and hopefully inspire you to do the same. ♥️ —— Photography: @meegan_mitchell Make-up: @nosi_cape_town_mua Hair: @a.gfantasy Hat: Imagined by myself and custom made by @therealcrystalbirch Stockings: @hedoineofficial
