What did we do before hybrid working? How did we ever have clean socks and how did the bins ever get taken out? My husband and I send each other texts from different rooms in the same house, reminding each other of the To-Do List items the other hasn’t done. “Sell car”, I say, “meter readings” he pings back, “call sky”. (I just added that one but sadly it’s on my list, not his.) I’ve moved rooms to the snug. I stuck it out a whole year in the affectionately named “fancy room” which is mercifully cool in the summer but rugby-pitch raw in the winter. I’ve got an old bureau, which used to be my Mother’s and I perch my laptop on the fold-down shelf bit whilst pud skulks behind the whirring machine, curled up with the ink pot, wooden rulers, and a whole punch I’ve not used since 1994.
